Knitting Design with Handspuns
NEW CLASS first time offered
Martha Owen - is a teacher at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC.
So, you have been spinning a while now, and behold, there is something like a
mountain of yarn smiling back at you. You made the choices as to fiber
combination, color and size, textured or smooth, single or plied. Why not make
your knitting reflect your individual ideas as well? We will begin with the
world of "tidbits " concerning knitting design. Visit the basics for tricks on
testing the best use of yarn in knitting (flat and round), carrying two colors,
cables, lace, or textured knits, (yes, it all starts with samples), and then on
with the rest! Discussion topics will include the importance of gauge, shaping,
designing
without patterns, substituting yarns in commercial patterns, traditional garment
construction, cutting or shrinking your knitting. This is not necessarily a
product oriented class, but students should expect to start something flat
(shawl, table mat, simple hat) and something circular (hat, purse, simple
sweater.)
October 1 - 3 (Weekend)
