Naomi…

So full of love and Gentleness! For two years we were so blessed to have Naomi with us. She was a wonderful mother to her two cria. She kissed them and talked to them and they would lay right beside her as if they were snuggling.  After watching her with them and knowing her background we are sure she fought to survive to have milk for Sarah and to give the cria (Gilligan) growing inside her a chance to live. After many months of vitamins and food Naomi became a healthy normal llama giving us love and wanting to see all the visitors to the farm. Not knowing the kind of abuse and neglect she had to endure, we suspect she had some type of heat stroke or neurological problem as she would have trouble seeing at times and would lean on the side of the barn when standing.  This gentle sole only wanted to be touched, just a hand on the back of her neck was all you needed to take her anywhere. When you would walk in the barn she would put her nose right in your face as if to say, "I love you and thank you". At 7 months we put Gilligan with the other juveniles and he worried so much about his mom. If she did not come in the barn he would run the fence and cry so she could hear him. She would come in the barn and stay by the gate so he could be close to her. Our plans were to have him gelded and let him stay with his mom forever.  As we watched the two together we can see how God gives animals that special bond between them and how they communicate their love and concern for each other.

In the fall Naomi started to show more confusion and was losing weight. After years of neglect and starvation the toll on her body was finally to much for her. We tried every kind of food to coax her to eat.  She was clear of parasites and on a very strict worming protocol. As she became weaker and having to go to the vet hospital for 4 days to receive fluids we made the decision to bring her home to be with her babies and the llamas she loved. We made her comfortable and allowed the llamas to be with her. Still hanging on to hope the blood was getting worse and she was getting weaker. After much prayer the decision was made to let Naomi go. Our most loving and kind vet and assistant came on a beautiful sunny day and as they held her head in their lap Naomi went to animal heaven. As Christians we believe that perhaps God takes the animals back to the Garden of Eden where he created them to run and play and never be hungry or sick. Naomi was truly loved and will be missed. We share Naomi's story to touch your heart that if you have an opportunity give a llama in need a home and love.  Naomi was buried on the farm overlooking the field of llamas where her babies now run and play.
