As the popularity of llamas  increases in the tri-state region we found a need to organize
llama owners to help educate our communities and new owners

Caring llama owners in southern Ohio

October 24, 1998

On a beautiful fall Saturday in southern Ohio a group of llama owners from Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia met at Good News Llamas for a get aquatinted and informational meeting. There were 19 present for the meeting. Jack and Donna Moore, Timberlane Llamas and Dr. Mike Dyer, DVM, Proctorville, OH  were the guest speakers. The meeting focused on llama healthcare and herd management. It was decided to organize the group as TriState Llama Caregivers,  to meet quarterly at local farms with topics to be announced. Our goal is to promote llamas in our area, develop quality healthcare, and to form a network of owners and breeders. A question and answer session was very informative to all in attendance. Farms attending brought photos of their llamas, shared health problems, and some interesting ways they have promoted llamas in our area. Dr. Mike Dyer was presented a llama healthcare manual from the owners. Information was shared about the Ohio River Valley Llama Association and the upcoming llama wellness workshop at Ohio State Veterinary Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Our Goals:

!                   To promote llamas in this area - (parades, festivals, fairs, 4_H, schools)

!                   To develop quality healthcare - ( to help educate and support our Vet)

!                   To form a network of owners and breeders

!                   To co_op in feed and hay purchases

!                   To be selective and cautious as we sell our llamas

!                   To educate new owners and the community around us

Dr. Mike Dyer, Proctorville, Ohio is the Veterinarian  for TriState Llama Caregivers and works closely with local  farms in providing needed health care for our llamas

We encourage new llama owners to contact us for  help and support with their llamas

We  invite all llama owners to join our group to help share  their resources and knowledge with new or prospective owners. To help in promoting llamas in our area.
